Up for sale is this beautiful 1958 Gibson J-50. This guitar is in fantastic shape and is set up perfectly. It plays phenomenally well and sounds exactly what you would hope a vintage Gibson acoustic would sound like.
The guitar had the adjustable bridge removed, the slot was filled and re-cut for a bone saddle. The guitar had the typical pickguard crack but it has been professionally repaired and it is barely visible. No other cracks on the guitar. The first twelve frets were replaced (the other frets are fine). The original adjustable bridge and frets are included in the case.
The guitar has never had a neck reset and it doesn’t need one. The action is perfect and the truss rod functions perfectly.
The J-50 was an upgraded J-45 in the sense that it has a higher quality spruce top because of the natural finish. You couldn’t hide any flaws under a natural finish like you can with a sunburst finish. Also the braces are neatly tucked under the kerfling rather than being butted up against them. Those are two differences between the J-50 and J-45 and why the J-50 cost a bit more.
The nut width is 1-11/16” and the profile is the perfect rounded 50’s profile. The tuners are original.
It comes with a modern Gibson hardshell case but I can swap it out for an alligator style 50’s cardboard case if you’d prefer. Though it does not protect the guitar very well at all.
This is a great way to get into the vintage acoustic market. One of the last few “good deals” out there In the vintage guitar world.
