This beautiful 1936 Martin D-28 was Eddie Preston's go-to guitar throughout his illustrious career. Originally purchased secondhand by his mother in 1950, this pre-war workhorse was a constant companion for Eddie, accompanying him on his musical journey with The Cascades, known for their hit "Rhythm of the Rain," and his extensive solo career thereafter. According to Eddie's son, it was at Eddie's side for nearly every song he ever wrote.This guitar plays seamlessly, boasting excellent intonation producing an incredible, rich sound with tons of sustain and resonance that can only come from well-loved, worn-in instruments. It's in fantastic condition—crack-free and updated with a neck reset, a new bridge/saddle, and fresh frets by the renowned Mark Tossman, often hailed as an oracle for vintage Martins. Additionally, the original bridge plate was expertly replaced in the 70s, with Tossman assuring us that the work was impeccably done.This is a remarkable Pre-War Martin with an equally remarkable story.
