Made only in exceptional vintages, the grapes for Barolo Monfortino macerates on their skins for up to five weeks with no temperature control regardless of how high the fermentation temperatures may go and is aged 7 years in botti. Monfortino is not a drinking wine, its a chewing wine, apparent in its huge tannic structure. The 2006 was noted for its immense ageing potential, this will improve more and more over the next decades.
