Château Cheval Blanc 2020 is a Right Bank Bordeaux from the iconic St-Émilion property of Cheval Blanc - producer of the most famous Cabernet Franc-based wine in the world. One of only four wines to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the classification of St-Émilion wine, the estate has three main soil types. clay, gravel and sand. Red grape plantings are made up of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot, which are used to produce wines with marvellous aromatics, with floral and smoky nuances. These wines frequently require a decade or more to begin to reveal their profound charms. "Intense, indelible, with layer upon layer of blueberry, raspberry, pomegranate, fennel, liquorice, crayon, espresso, crushed rocks, just so much character and poise. The driest year at Cheval Blanc since 1959, with 71% of production from the 39ha estate in this wine... The first year that will not be bottled with Premier Grand Cru Classé A on the label since the ranking began, following its withdrawal from the ranking. That makes an interesting footnote for collectors I would imagine, but makes zero difference to the brilliance of what is in the bottle." Jane Anson, 2023
