Description

The Chave family has reportedly been producing wines in the Rhône Valley since 1481 and is unequivocally one of the most famous producers of Hermitage. Cuvée Cathelin is an ultra-exclusive luxury wine which made its debut with the 1990 vintage. It is named after a close family friend, artist Bernard Cathelin, and is produced mostly from Syrah from the Les Bessards lieu-dit with an extended period of maturation in new French oak. Only made in selected vintages production is strictly limited to around 200 cases. The 1998 is a remarkably full-bodied, concentrated and tannic release, with incredible richness of fruit and unending savoury complexity.

About this wine

The 1998 Cuvée Cathelin is a monumental Hermitage wine, characterized by its remarkable complexity and depth. Crafted from old-vine Syrah, it showcases the quintessential qualities of its terroir, with a powerful yet nuanced profile. This vintage is particularly noted for its balance, aromatic richness, and aging potential, making it a standout among the already exceptional Cathelin line. The 1998 Cuvée Cathelin offers a deep bouquet of black fruits, licorice, smoked meats, and graphite. On the palate, it reveals layers of dark fruit, savory spices, and a lingering minerality that leads to a long, illustrious finish. Its structure suggests significant aging potential.
