Description

An early vintage from the Montevertine estate, which was purchased by iron and steel industrialist Sergio Manetti in 1967. Produced from 1971 to 1981 as Chianti Classico Montevertine and from 1982, when the estate left the Chianti Classico Consortium, simply as Montevertine. A blend of carefully selected Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino grapes, aged for two years in Slavonian and Allier oak barrels.

About this wine

The 1977 Chianti Classico from Montevertine is a vintage Italian red wine representing the essence of Tuscany. Made predominantly from Sangiovese, with a blend of other traditional varietals, this wine is known for its structure, complexity, and ability to age gracefully. Produced in a time when wine-making techniques were both traditional and innovative for the era, this vintage is a piece of Italian wine history. Characterized by notes of ripe red fruits, leather, and earth, with a robust structure and a finely balanced acidity leading to a long, complex finish. With age, it has developed elegant tertiary aromas of dried fruits, tobacco, and spice.

The Montevertine collection celebrates the Sangiovese grape, showcasing its adaptability and excellence across various expressions. Focused on the production of high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Chianti Classico region, Montevertine’s wines are a testament to the estate’s mastery and dedication.
