Description

Château Trotte Vieille is one of the oldest and most respected estates in Saint-Émilion and has some of the oldest vines of Bordeaux. The 2016 release is, once again, an excellent wine though unusually has a slightly higher percentage of Cabernet Franc (53%) than Merlot (45%) with the balance of Cabernet Sauvignon. It is endowed with lovely layers of rich black fruits and exudes effortless freshness, though it will need a little longer for the new oak to integrate further. Drink from 2025 onwards.

About this wine

The 2016 vintage from Château Trotte Vieille is a stunning representation of Saint-Émilion's terroir, expressed through a blend of predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. This large format bottle preserves the wine's intricate flavors and aromas, allowing for an exquisite tasting experience now and in decades to come. The 2016 vintage exhibits a deep ruby color with a complex nose of black fruits, licorice, and hints of cedar. On the palate, it offers a beautiful structure, with layers of ripe berry fruit, balanced acidity, and fine-grained tannins leading to a long, elegant finish.

Château Trotte Vieille

Château Trotte Vieille is one of the oldest estates in Saint-Émilion, with a history that dates back to the early 15th century. The chateau's name, which translates to 'old lady's walk', originates from a legend about an old lady who lived in the estate and spent her days trotting along a path to watch for the arrival of stagecoaches between Saint-Émilion and Libourne. Today, the estate is known for producing wines of exceptional quality that embody the richness and complexity of the Saint-Émilion terroir.
