Sine Qua Non is a cult winery in California that is known for its wines made from blends of Rhône grape varietals. The winery is located in Ventura County and was founded in 1993 by Austrian-born winemaker Manfred Krankl. The name of the winery, Sine Qua Non, is a Latin phrase that can be translated as ‘absolutely indispensable’. The 2020 Syrah Distenta is a full-bodied, concentrated and remarkably balanced wine based on 83% Syrah, with Grenache, Mourvèdre, Petite Sirah, Muscat, and Petit Manseng making up the rest of the blend. The wine was fermented with 16% whole clusters and matured for 23 months in 66% new French oak.
