Sassicaia

Sassicaia is an iconic winemaker located in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany, Italy, credited with pioneering the Super Tuscan wine style. Established by the Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta in the 1940s, Sassicaia initially produced wine for private consumption. However, it wasn't until the 1970s that Sassicaia gained international recognition under the guidance of Mario's son, Marchese Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta. Sassicaia's flagship wine, also named Sassicaia, is predominantly crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, with a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc. The wine is known for its elegance, finesse, and remarkable aging potential, offering layers of complex flavors and a distinctive expression of Bolgheri's terroir. Sassicaia played a pivotal role in challenging the traditional conventions of Italian winemaking by demonstrating the potential of Bordeaux grape varieties in Tuscany's coastal climate. The success of Sassicaia inspired the emergence of the Super Tuscan category, which includes wines that blend traditional Italian grape varieties with international varietals. Sassicaia's reputation as one of Italy's premier winemakers has been solidified by its consistent production of exceptional wines, which have earned high praise from critics and enthusiasts worldwide. The estate's commitment to quality, innovation, and respect for tradition continues to define its winemaking philosophy and contribute to its enduring legacy in the world of fine wine.
