Domaine de la Romanée-Conti – or simply ‘DRC’ – is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious wine producers in the world. Unlike other great Burgundy estates, Romanée-Conti’s strategy has always been to focus on a small number of grand cru vineyards, such as Grands-Echézeaux, where they own a 3.52-hectare plot. This release is from the 2011 vintage, available here in a rare magnum format. The wine displays some lovely aromas of spices, wildflowers, stony minerals and smoked meaty undertones. On the palate, this is a muscular, full-bodied expression, featuring red and dark berries, cherries, pomegranate and cranberries, all leading to a nice peppery finish.
