Spine and top section of boards faded, spine ends slightly creased, edges and corners a little rubbed, a few damp stains to upper board, inside hinges partly split but holding very firmly, inside upper board with paper label with blurred ink inscription of previous owner H.W.A. Loehe, 29 Oct. 1937, small earlier name stamp of C.A. Davis on verso of endpaper, edition statement on title and lines on pp. 1, 604 ("Luther") to 606, with underlining in blue and red pencil, note and marks in the margins of pp. 391, 397, 427 to 431 and rear endpaper, last leaf and rear endpaper with ca. 6 cm tears in the back margins, text block a little tanned as always. * Rare early English edition of Marx's "Das Kapital" first published in English only four years prior in 1887. * The previous owner was Herrmann Wilhelm Albrecht Lohe (1907 - 1995) a teacher and the second Headmaster at St. Peter's Lutheran College, Brisbane.
