Rare first edition bound in original 24 parts, published 1859-1861; the earliest obtainable version of the iconic work. From the estate of a Beeton family member. Published by S.O. Beeton, the series was expanded after the originally planned 18 parts, and has remained in print ever since. Publisher's original buff and rose pictorial wrappers, wood engraved frontispiece and title page with colour print in part 1, 12 colour plates as well as vignette engravings within the text. Some sympathetic paper guarding to part 1, spines are remarkably complete with some minor loss, preserved in custom cloth clamshell. Predating the first edition of the famous book, complete sets of this serialised work are vanishingly scarce, with few recorded appearances in the last forty years. Fantastically preserved with remarkable provenance.
