Our dealing in antiquarian, rare and collectable books began in 1971 in Leicester.
The business was founded by the late Godfrey Tyers and Patricia Tyers. The impetus for the establishment came from Godfrey's interest in literature, academia and music books and from Patricia's previous experience working with second hand books. Following an initial library buy of ten thousand books, the business was set up in Belvoir Street, Leicester.
In 1987 the business relocated to St. Mary's Hill, Stamford. The shop is situated in the shadow of the church of St. Mary the Virgin, hence the title of "St. Mary's Books".
