Small octavo. [viii], 141, [1, blank] pages. Bound without rear ads. Bound in contemporary half dark brown morocco over marbled boards, spine tooled in blind, and ruled and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, top edge gilt, marbled endleaves. Spine worn, joints cracking, some wear to boards, text lightly toned. A good copy with interesting provenance, as the book contains an inscription to a friend of Robert Louis Stevenson. The inscription, dated 1887, is to St. Clair Baddeley ("charming neighbor +/Mr. Stevenson's Friend" ) from Anne Benson Procter. Procter was the wife of the poet Barry Procter - "Barry Cornwall" - and mother of poet Adelaide Anne Procter. Also formerly in the library of actor Michael York.
