Description

Littlemill Distillery has a long history that dates back to 1772, making it one of Scotland`s oldest distilleries. It went through various periods of operation and ownership changes over the years. Unfortunately, the distillery faced several challenges, including fires and economic difficulties, which ultimately led to its closure. The final chapter of Littlemill Distillery`s history occurred in 1996 when it was completely destroyed by a fire. As a result, the distillery was not rebuilt, and its whisky production came to an end. Bottled in 2013 by the Silver Seal Whisky Company, this 23-year-old expression hails from a single cask hogshead, resulting in just 290 bottles.

About this whisky

The Littlemill 23 Year Old Silver Seal 1990 is a cherished expression of the storied Littlemill distillery, representing one of the final vintages before its closure. This single malt whisky, aged for 23 years, offers a rare glimpse into the distillery's distinctive character, embodied in a complex profile of fruits, florals, and subtle peat. Bottled by Silver Seal, this release encapsulates the essence of Littlemill's traditional craftsmanship. Nose offers a bouquet of floral and fruit aromas, followed by a delicate palate with notes of vanilla, oak, and a hint of citrus, leading to a long, smooth finish with a whisper of peat.

Littlemill

Littlemill is acclaimed as one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, with its history tracing back to the 18th century. The distillery was situated in Bowling, along the banks of the River Clyde near Glasgow. It is widely recognized for its unique distillation process that involved both traditional swan neck pot stills and rectifying column stills, which allowed for a versatile range of spirits. Unfortunately, Littlemill distillery ceased production in 1994 and was subsequently destroyed by fire in 2004, making any remaining bottles incredibly rare and sought after by collectors.
