Some whiskies may appear born to be paired together but very few are blended at birth. Yet such is the case with this unusual parcel of grain and malt, born 57 years ago and married as new make spirit, before aging as a blend for half a lifetime in ex-bourbon American oak. Time has brought the malt and grain components together to create a blend that has matured beautifully as a single spirit. Distilled in 1965 and bottled in 2022, this beautiful release displays rich notes of marzipan, Dundee cake and leather on the nose followed by pleasing tannin-rich herbal tea on the palate and a cool, minty aftertaste. This is not only one of the world’s first whiskies to be blended at birth, it is also likely to be one of the last, for such practices are now prohibited by the powers that be within Scotch. One of only 192 bottles, `Blended at Birth` forms part of the prestigious Charles Gordon Collection. Packaged in a hand-engraved, individually-numbered decanter with an ash display box featuring gold leaf inlay.
