Description

Cult Japanese distillery Karuizawa was closed in 2001 by owners Mercian, and its hugely sought-after single cask releases are now some of the most prestige whiskies on the planet. This particular release was distilled 1984 and matured for 30 years until bottling in 2015, with a very limited production of 404 bottles.

About this whisky

This exquisite 30-year-old single malt from Karuizawa's Samurai Cask series is a testament to the distillery's mastery in whisky making. Distilled in 1984 and aged in a single sherry cask, it embodies the unique characteristics of sherry cask aging, with a complex profile of dried fruit, spices, and a hint of oak. Intense aromas of dried fruit, Christmas spices, and dark chocolate, leading to a profound taste of rich sherry, oak, and a hint of smoke, culminating in a lingering, warm finish.

30 Year Old

The Talisker 30 Year Old is a highly respected and limited annual release. This series exemplifies the complexity and richness that can be achieved through extended aging, showcasing deep maritime and smoky characteristics.

Karuizawa

Karuizawa Distillery was a small-scale whisky production facility, known for its premium and highly sought-after single malt whiskies. Located in Miyota, Japan, at the foot of an active volcano (Mount Asama), it was one of Japan's highest altitude distilleries. This unique location contributed to the distinct flavor profile of Karuizawa whisky.
