Funny, considering that the model was historically poor in sales prior to the end of the last century. Early Daytona’s can be a lot of fun to collect not just because of the recognition they have these days, but also, as with so many other Rolex models early in their life-cycles, because of how many changes and configurations they exhibited throughout the first decade or so of their production. One thing that they all had in common, however, was the manually-wound movements found within them. Every Daytona variant packed the iconic Valjoux 72 chronograph inside. The watch that we have here, a Reference 6265, is known to collectors as a ‘Big Red’. Why that name? Well, the ‘Daytona’ text on the dial in rendered in red. And that's it. This piece dates to circa 1978 and has a strong, well preserved case with later pushers, a matte black dial with silver sub registers — or, a 'reverse-panda' dial, and it comes fitted to a later solid-link Oyster bracelet. Condition: Case: Untouched and strong showing normal wear throughout with no major damage or blemishes.
