Piper described this model to the FAA as a fixed-gear Saratoga II TC. Fixed gear offers significant savings on hull insurance. Comfortable and roomy with an updated glass panel, air conditioning, and autopilot - this Cherokee 6XT is a delight to fly. The handling is quite forgiving, and the turbocharged engine provides excellent climb performance even in high density altitudes. Economy cruise speed is about 140 kts TAS with high performance cruise at about 155 kts TAS. With the factory oxygen system, long flights at 17,500’ make for a smooth ride.
Damage History due to hard landing
On 1/17/2008, this aircraft (254 Hours TTAF) suffered a hard landing resulting in substantial damage to the aircraft. (NTSB Accident Number DEN08CA051. Beegles Aircraft Services replaced much of the lower parts of the aircraft including new wing assemblies and main gear. The engine was returned to Lycoming for inspection and a new propellor was installed. The aircraft was returned to airworthy condition on 12/04/2008. Beegles is a top-tier FAA Certificated Repair Station and parts were replaced rather than repaired. This aircraft has exhibited no issues since the accident 15+ years ago.
