In the 1920’s, the Orchestra Model was originally intended to be a large guitar capable of being heard over other orchestral instruments, hence the OM name. Although it fit the bill, its relatively large body was soon eclipsed by the mighty dreadnought. Fortunately, the OM had secured its place in history as a powerful and versatile voice for public performance, now being the most popular and sought after body style, highlighting the midrange with warmth and clarity.This is a great example of a custom OM where the tonewoods are the highlight. Built with back and sides of Honduran Rosewood (Dalbergia stevensonii), a premium Rosewood from Honduras and Belize (British Honduras) that was long considered the only substitute to the famed and rare Brazilian Rosewood with similar density and tone. Tortoise pickguard included in case.About Santa Cruz’s Moon SpruceThe Florinett Family of the Swiss Alps provides Santa Cruz with their Master Grade Moon Spruce, and their family has been in this business for over 500 years. Harvested at night, based on the cycles of the Moon, the wood is most often cut at the last full moon of fall when sap content in the trees are the lowest. Left to cure through the winter, the trees are then harvested in the spring. The same process that has been in use for centuries in Europe, and the same that was used for Stradivarius wood as well. This European Spruce variation is a wonderful in-between of Sitka and Adirondack, offering a bright tone with excellent clarity.
