Gibson Les Paul Standard from 1981, Cherry Sunburst .
Fantastic example of a Norlin-era Les Paul Standard in a stunning, unfaded cherry sunburstThis guitar was purchased new from Holiday Music, Leytonstone, London in Feb 1982 and has been with its original owner since then. The guitar is completely original with no modifications, upgrades or parts changes (aside from strings) in its 43 year life. It comes complete with its original hard case, owner's manual and warranty card. The warranty card features an 'Inspected By' stamp from Peter Cook's Guitar World dated 27th August 1981 as was common when Gibson were distributed by Rosetti. The card also features the original, and only, owners details listed as 'First Owner'. In the interests of data protection, however, these details will be obscured or removed upon sale of the guitar. This Les Paul is in fantastic condition. The only signs of wear being a light buckle rash on the back and one or two small dings on the underside edge of the body. The finish appears not to have faded and is still vibrant and features no crazing, very few lacquer lines and no cracks or splits. The plastics have aged to a pleasing colour and show no signs of damage. Frets are original, as evidenced by intact nibs, however, are of the 'fretless wonder' style, popular at the time, giving a low, slinky feel. The maple neck has a great feel with a rounded profile. The finish on the back of the neck has no wear or stickiness and looks super bright against the maple. The body features a one piece mahogany back and also features a sunburst finish. The two piece maple cap (joined between the neck and bridge controls) features n attractive grain pattern with a few possible hints of birds-eye or bear claw. This is fantastic example of a non-Heritage '81 Standard, and seemingly quite hard to find these days. It plays and sounds fantastic, exactly as it should. At 11lb, it's quite a heavy beast, but this only adds to the hefty slab of tone this guitar delivers. Please get in touch if you have any questions or queries.EDIT: Upon further inspection of the guitar, I have discovered a short (appx 3cm) lacquer line in the finish at the bottom of the neck near the headstock. This is not a crack in the wood and is purely a lacquer line due to age, fragility of 43 year old nitrocellulose lacquer and the wood of the guitar moving slightly throughout use and changes in temperature. I have added an extra photo showing this.
The guitar has never had a headstock break or any repairs to any damage.
I have had the lacquer line verified by a very well known local guitar technician/ luthier, however, have reflected this discovery in a reduction in price. Thanks
