This is a killer piece of vintage guitar history you don’t see too often: a 1951 Gibson CF-100E! Check out the included demo video.I’ve only ever seen a handful of these over the years at various vintage guitar shops. The CF-100 is essentially an X-braced LG-2 with a Florentine cutaway, a P-90 pickup with volume and tone knobs, and fancier fretboard inlay. There’s really nothing else quite like this in the vintage guitar world, and it has a very cool, midrange-forward sound with really sweet trebles. The playability is also comfortable thanks to the shorter scale length (24.75”) and 1 11/16” nut width. This guitar recently had a neck reset, so the neck angle is perfect with just the right amount of relief (and there is an adjustable truss rod in case any further adjustments would be necessary). Several cracks on the back and two on the top have been repaired, the back center seam reinforced, and a couple areas of chipped binding (including one tiny segment missing). The 2nd and 3rd frets have been replaced, and although there is a little fretwear on the first fret, it’s not too substantial. The tuners have been replaced with Golden Age Restoration replicas. There is plenty of surface wear across the instrument, but everything is in great playing order, and the electronics have been tested and sound excellent!I recently had Music City Vintage Guitars here in Nashville appraise this CF-100E for $5,000. The asking price is $5,300 here on Reverb (to accommodate the fees) but $5k elsewhere. Comes in its original brown Gibson hardshell case.
