With this SJ-200 Pre-War the Gibson Custom Shop has recreated the “King of Flattops”. This historic reissue instrument is one of Gibson's most famous models and is handcrafted at the factory in Bozeman, MT, using the finest materials. It was modeled after the late 1930s with no detail left untouched: the bound fingerboard, vintage-style Gibson inlay and unique pickguard give this authentic replica a very individual touch. In close cooperation with the University of America and Gibson a process has been developed in which the Adirondack spruce top is “artificially aged”. Temperature and pressure are used to create a cell structure that delivers a phenomenally authentic sound, as if the instrument was actually from the vintage years. But this SJ-200 Pre-War also benefits from the latest production processes: the fingerboard edges have been rounded off with the aim of achieving an even better feel and the patented Gibson PLEK process means that the string action is perfect. The fingerboard and bridge are also treated with finishing oil, which optimizes the longevity and natural resonance of the wood. And there really are no superlatives for the classic look of this acoustic: the absolute eye-catcher of the beautiful spruce top in traditional “Vintage Sunburst” is of course the faux-tortoise pickguard with the attractive “SJ-200 Vintage” inlays. The golden hardware, the moustache bridge with mother-of-pearl inlays and the back and sides made of AAA premium rosewood are a perfect match. The “Historic D” profile of the great neck is also extremely comfortable in the hand, making this Jumbo play like butter despite its size.
