This 1967 Martin D-28 sounds excellent and is in fantastic shape! Check out the included demo video.Other than my dad’s old Herringbone, I remember the first great old Brazilian Martin I played: a ‘67 D-28 in Umanov’s shop in NYC. The tone on this one is similarly 3-dimensional, deep, and sparkly. Although these later ‘60s models aren’t as valuable as examples from the ‘50s, there is a focus and clarity in some of these that makes them stand out. It certainly records well for a rosewood dreadnought, I think in part because the straight-bracing keeps the low end tighter and the overall sound more balanced. The finish, tuners, bridge, tortoise pickguard, and small maple bridgeplate are all original. I recently had Custom Fretted Instruments in Sparta, TN perform a compression refret and install a new bone nut and saddle. The neck was reset and bridge reglued at some point in the past, and there is a small ebony plug on the bridge, although there are no screws or bolts in the bridgeplate. There is a repaired pickguard crack as well as a long lacquer scratch emanating from the bridge across the lower bout. The Brazilian Rosewood back is beautifully straight-grained. Although there is some playwear, lacquer checking, and scuffs, this D-28 has been very well-preserved!Asking $7,900 here on Reverb (lower on other forums) plus shipping. Comes in its original hardshell case.
