Up for sale is this vintage 1966 Fender Jazz Bass. When this bass landed here at the shop, we immediately started drooling over it and why shouldn't we? This is a fine example of the era and has ALL of the cool features: dots and binding (a short lived variation), lollipop tuning keys (incredible), a bright, unfaded sunburst finish (uncommon to be unphased by the sun), and a connection to the Who!This incredible bass guitar is all original with the exception of the washer and gear screw on the G-string tuning key. Other than that, it's untouched. The pickups, pots, even the original covers are present. The original sunburst finish shows some wear and a few chips and dings (we have tried to capture the worst areas in the photos), but is bright, unfaded and, overall, extremely clean. The finish on the neck is no different, showing only minor wear. There are a few dings on the back of the neck that can be lightly felt while playing. All of the original hardware is extremely clean, showing only light pitting. The only exception is that the neck pickup cover has a small ding on the top. This one has just been gone over by our tech who sprayed out the electronics and gave it a slight tweak to the set up, although it didn't need much. It is set up with flatwounds and is an absolute joy to play with comfortable, low action all the way up the neck. If you're heavy handed, you will likely want to raise the action a bit to avoid fret buzz. He did note that there is a high fret leading to the A string and the E string coming close to fretting out at the 17th fret (we're very, very transparent if you haven't caught on yet), but there are no other trouble spots. Since this bass is all original and pretty much untouched, we decided to leave it alone. The neck is straight and the original frets still have plenty of life left in them, although they do show wear. The original hardshell case is included and shows wear especially on the ends, as is typical. That being said, it's completely intact and sturdy with all of the latches and hinges present and working as they should, although the outside latches no longer spring open. The interior is missing the neck rest and shows general wear from protecting the bass over the decades. The case exhibits the name of the former owner, John McIvor, the bassist for Law. Law was championed by the Who and joined them on some of their US mini-tours in the late 1970's, as evidenced by the Who passes still stuck to the exterior of the case. While Law never became a household name, it still makes this bass a small part of rock n' roll history and what more could anyone ask for?If you're looking for an absolutely killer mid-1960's Fender Jazz Bass, you'd be hard pressed to find a better, nicer, or cooler example than this one. I'm shopping this one around to friends to try to "keep it in the family" because it truly is that nice. If one of them wises up and makes the plunge, this one will disappear from the market so here's your chance...Please be sure to check out our other listings for more great items!THE FINE PRINT: Most of our items are used/vintage.
