Is this as good as it gets for the modern Gibson Les Paul '59 burst? We think so. This is the 'Murphy Burst'. One of only 50 made worldwide back in 2013. This was to celebrate the Custom Shop turning 20. These were from a combined project between Tom Murphy, Edwin Wilson and Carl Hanson. Ed hand-picked the wood for every single guitar in this small run, and Tom painted and aged them all. There is so much to talk about with this Les Paul I’ll try to keep it brief. They were made exclusively for the Japanese market. The guitar is crafted from a single piece of solid lightweight mahogany sporting a beautifully figured ‘green lemonburst’ maple top (25 only in this finish), it benefits from the entire spectrum of Gibson’s 20th Anniversary specifications from 2013. These include a 1-piece rosewood fingerboard, Reissue Kluson Deluxe “green key” tuners, hot hide neck glue, a Historic Truss Rod assembly with no tubing, accurate body and and fingerboard binding colour, new Custom Buckers created in the image of the original PAFs, and period correct Red aniline dye beneath its nitrocellulose finish etc, the latter treated to Gibson Custom’s propriety VOS process for a gently worn look and feel courtesy of Tom Murphy, who painted it as stated above. Built way before all the mass-produced Murphy Lab nonsense. Marking the historic nature of this rollout it also includes a ton of extras including (but not limited to) a glass framed hand-written Certificate of Authenticity, ‘retro’ logo dust cover, hand selected certificate, signed lifton HSC, Custom Shop medallion, even a pair of white cotton gloves for those who want to keep it as an investment and not play the crap out of it! We have also included the original 2013 Japanese colour booklet detailing the making of this amazing guitar featuring pics of Tom, Ed and the guys at work on it. And did I mention it is an absolute featherweight at 3.7kg. In superb condition throughout (if you don't count the deliberate ageing of course). There is some light buckle rub on the back but not sure if it was deliberate by Tom Murphy or not. Anyway it's hands down the best Gibson Les Paul 59 Reissue we have ever had through the shop. I don’t think you can get much closer to an original ’59 burst than this beauty.
