Very good example of a Domino Californian, probably the best and most playable you’ll ever come across. This one has seen a lot of care and restoration, and is in far better playing condition now than it probably was when it was new. The old Teisco and other Japanese guitars from the late 1960s were notably hit or miss, and were made with sub par parts. This one is very nicely made and now has upgraded electronics and more:
Upgrades:
New CTS potsNew orange drop capacitorNew Switchcraft selector switchesNew Switchcraft input jackTotally rewired harness Replaced bridge (the OEM bridges on these guitars are TERRIBLE and cause tuning and intonation problems)New Kluson tuners (again the OEM tuners were atrocious) New knobs, including a Lock Knob for the tone pot (to prevent accidentally hitting it while you’re playing).New cheetah print case, fits the guitar perfectly. This guitar plays like a dream: low action, nice tone, no buzzing or intonation problems. The neck is nice and straight, and frets have plenty of life left. Tuners hold tune, everything works as it should.
In typical Teisco fashion, the switches serve unusual purposes. The middle switch functions as a sort of mid boost.
The only flaws on this instrument are cosmetic. there is the normal amount of checking and cracking in the finish, but none in the wood body. Shockingly the pick guard is made of wood also (not Formica which is what I originally assumed), and there is a surface crack or two on the top of it. It doesn't run through the guard though, and doesn’t appear in danger of doing so.
It was necessary to put an additional screw between two of the machine heads in order to secure them due to incorrect spacing of the holes (a factory mistake).
Otherwise this thing is killer, plays like a dream, and is more functional, cleaner, and more attractive than any other Californian on Reverb.
Need to sell to fund a touring guitar that I can drop and mistreat. Will be sad to see it go. This guitar can be heard on the track below! I used it to record a bunch of my most recent album. Please let me know if you have any questions!
