EXTREMELY RARE Vintage 1843 Louis Panormo Concert Classical Guitar Spruce / Brazilian
Top of the Line, "P" Stamped Professional Concert Model, from the Jim Forderer collection
Scale Length: 630mm; Overall Length: 930mm; Upper Bout: 24.5 mm; Lower Bout: 30.5mm; Depth: 102mmUp for consideration is a rare, top concert model by Louis Panormo built in 1843. This guitar was from the Jim Forderer Guitar Collection (see 3:25 on the video), and Jim stated that it was played as a concert guitar throughout its lifetime. It is easy to see why, as even this is a small bodied guitar by today's standards, it still has beautiful tone and easy playability, and the characteristically lovely Panormo trebles.Cosmetically, it does have several repaired cracks in the Brazilian back and sides, but structurally it is quite stable and very playable. The bridge middle section looks like it has been modified, as it is quite normal to see some changes in guitars as they approach 200 years old. This is a rare instrument in that it is a top concert model by one of the greatest luthiers of all-time, and therefore it is a highly collectable, museum-quality, showpiece instrument. Yet, at the same time, it is still a professional concert guitar and can be played as such. These guitars are so good that they are not limited to period-specific repertoire, but can be used universally for many different kinds and periods of music. As such, it represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a museum-quality guitar of historical importance that can still be played and enjoyed as a professional concert guitar.
