The L-C "Century" model was introduced in 1933 by Gibson to commemorate the Century of Progress World's Fair held in Chicago that year. It features a full celluloid fingerboard and headstock overlay which was considered a futuristic material at the time. These first year models are more lightly built and as a result, are louder and more responsive than the later examples. They also feature a more delicate shaded sunburst finish compared to later models which had a more abrupt transition between the colors. The L-C was a very expensive model in the Gibson acoustic flat top lineup at $55 which was just below the top of the line Nick Lucas and Jumbo and above the L-1 and L-00.It has had all the repair work done by the best shops including a neck reset by Dave Strunk at Brothers Music and refret by Mark Stutman at Folkway Music. There are a couple cleanly repaired cracks. It sounds and plays amazingly well and is ready to go for another century. The figured maple back and sides give it a different tonal profile than your typical L-00 shaped guitar with mahogany back and sides. It has a surprising amount of bass for a small guitar and a strong mid range punch. The treble strings are very robust sounding with no hint of tinniness. The neck profile is a full soft V shape- in my opinion the best feeling neck on a Gibson. It measures a beefy 0.93" at the first fret and tapers up to 1.05" at the 7th. Comes with a modern HSC. Overall it is a beautiful, first year example of one of Gibson's fanciest small body models.
