1956 Gibson Super 400 in Custom BLACK finish. Here is a super cool, and super rare, Super 400. Although not completely original, I have gone through the guitar and come up with the some conclusions… Looks like this guitar went back to the factory in the 1960s for some repairs and modifications. The first was to repair a back seam separation, as its professionally cleated inside, and also to remove the alnico pickups and swapping them for humbucking pickups. They are two unopened, gold plated, PAT# pickups (thus dating it to the 1960s). The re-routing is clean wood, meaning they cut through the black finish to add the pickups, and black Gibson plastic “plates” were added to hide the “alnico” pickup cover holes… Very interesting, looks amazing, blacklites perfectly, and plays and sounds fantastic.
