This Gibson ES 225T is from my personal collection and has been with me for years. It truly sounds amazing. I’ve owned several 225s and 330s from the ’50s, but none sounded as beautiful as this one. Now, it’s time to let it go. The Gibson 225T was Gibson’s first thinline hollowbody model, produced from 1955 to 1959. In 1959, this model was replaced by the ES 330. I’m particularly fond of the P90 in the middle position. It offers the “bite” of a bridge pickup but sounds much warmer. By experimenting with the volume and tone knobs and your picking position, you can get a wide variety of sounds from this guitar. Come and give it a try!
The guitar has a chunky C-shaped neck, low action, and plays very comfortably. The intonation is also spot-on.
Because the ES 225 is a relatively affordable 1950s Gibson, these guitars are often used for parts for more expensive Gibsons. Fortunately, this ES 225T has remained beautifully original: the truss rod cover, knobs, pots, tuners, and dogear P90 pickup are all original.
When I bought the guitar, it didn’t have its original bumblebee capacitor, but I sourced an original ’50s bumblebee and installed it. One tuner button has been replaced, and the jack has been reinforced with a jack plate (see photo). So, it’s about 95% original and comes complete with its brown Lifton case with pink lining.
Feel free to come and test it thoroughly. Shipping worldwide is also an option. Do you have questions or want to see more photos of the guitar? Feel free to get in touch!
