Description

Killer late Sixties Gibson SG Special in a great looking faded cherry finish, two great sounding P-90 pickups, an easy approachable neck and conversion to Tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece.Featuring a lightweight double cut Honduras Mahogany body with a Mahogany neck. A bound Rosewood fingerboard with pearl dots and a Pearl inlayed Headstock logo complete the traditional Gibson Special appointments.  Being a ’69 the guitar features the revised heel joint, five-ply ‘Batwing’ pickguard and Witch hat knobs that define the Sg though the second half of the sixties. This guitar has had some changes along the way and as well as the Tune-o-matic conversion the tuners are replacements. As part of the conversion the short Maestro Vibrola has been removed and the redundant holes filled, a tune-o-matic bridge has been added and the pickguard modified to accommodate. Internally there is a trio of late CTS pots dating to 1969 and one modern replacement. Pickups are the correct dog-ear P-90s with soapbar covers measuring 7.54K and 7.8K in the neck and bridge respectively.  The guitars finish has faded to a cool looking off- cherry, there are areas of wear and the odd knock and bump, all consistent with a guitar that has been used regularly. The headstock, heel and input are all free of cracks and repairs and the guitar has a consistent UV signature under blacklight. The neck has a typical late sixties slim at the nut but tapering to a comfortable chunky C profile towards the 12th fret. Nut width is 39.64mm, depth at the first fret is 21.06mm and at the 12th fret 25.18mm. The guitar weighs in at a featherweight 2.66kg and comes with a modern Gibson Case.
