Description

Beautiful D 18 with unusual, rare "pommele" figured, non-sitka? soundboard (see photos). All original (including case) except for a new Brazilian Rosewood bridge, "small" bridgeplate repair and bridge pins. I am a professional luthier and I've cleated and repaired the usual pickguard "b string" crack and a few minor cracks on the back that are now invisible. It has had a recent neck reset and frets are not worn. The finish has been touched up and is beautiful. It is set up with low action (5/64 -4/64) and plays easily and cleanly with no fret noise. This was one of the last years of the tortoise pickguard and small bridgeplates before Martin put black pickguards and huge rosewood bridgeplates killing their tone. This has the classic big Martin D 18 open, woody tone with beautiful reverb on the high notes.

About D-18

The Martin D-18 is a true icon in the world of acoustic guitars. First introduced in 1931, the D-18 has established itself as a mainstay in genres like folk, country, and bluegrass. With its solid Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides, it delivers a balanced tone characterized by warm bass and clear treble. Musicians love its playability and rugged construction, making it reliable for both studio sessions and live performances.
