This is a rare 2018 Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue (R9) with a Factory Brazilian Rosewood Fretboard, weighing in at a lightweight 8.148 ounces. It has gorgeous thin flame and grain with unbelievable 3D movement at every angle. This guitar is priced at market given its stock Brazilian Rosewood fretboard, which is coveted by Les Paul players, as vintage 1959 Les Pauls featured Brazilian boards. (Gibson's Custom Shop recently released a limited edition run of R9s with factory Brazilian Boards priced at $20,000, so this guitar should be viewed as an investment as well as an outstanding guitar.)LIMITED EDITION RUNIn 2018, Gibson's Custom Shop made a small limited run of R9 Factory Brazilian boards for Japan's Yamano Music. Tops were handpicked, and the guitars were constructed with Brazilian fretboards, which are coveted by Les Paul players, as vintage 1959 Les Pauls featured Brazilian boards.Gibson encountered many issues when exporting the guitars to Japan due to international CITES restrictions on exporting endangered wood species, including Brazilian Rosewood. They decided to release these limited-run Les Paul reissues to domestic dealers. This particular guitar was sold to Sweetwater Guitars. I am the second owner.GUITAR FINISHThe finish is a Lemonburst VOS. VOS stands for Vintage Original Sheen and is a guitar finish Gibson uses on their Custom Shop Reissue models. The finish gives the guitar a gently aged appearance with a lightly dulled gloss nitrocellulose finish and some patina on the hardware. The parts are also lightly aged to create an authentic vintage patina, and the finish is buffed to a light matte appearance. You'll see swirls and light aging marks. The only non-factory blemish is a small area near the rear strap button, where the finish was likely rubbed with a strap. This is a very small area that does not affect the guitar at all. That is the only reason I didn't rate this as "mint."The neck is a classic 1959 medium C-shaped neck profile and weighs in at a lightweight 8 lbs 1.48 ounces, according to my scale.OTHER GUITAR DETAILSThis guitar has proudly been a case queen. It has been in a non-smoking, non-pet home and has never been gigged. The frets are in excellent condition. All hardware and electronics are original to the guitar, which sounds outstanding with stock Gibson Custom Bucker PAFs.It comes with the original Gibson Custom Lifton "Cali Girl" case, all hangtags, case key, original plastic pickup selector switch cover (in the case compartment), and COA noting the factory Brazilian Rosewood Fingerboard.SHIPPINGThe guitar will be shipped via UPS ground (3-day service) in the continental U.S. only, and the guitar will be fully insured for the total pre-tax purchase price. The rate is $325. If you wish to not opt for the insurance, the shipping cost is $250, and the buyer assumes all responsibility for damage in transit.
