2011 Martin Custom Shop 0042SC John MayerA stunning guitar from the Martin Custom shop, this is a 0042SC John Mayer Stage Coach. This one is a departure from the usual 42 style with the rosette lines extending into the fretboard to complete a full circle, an exquisite detail. I find the cocobolo on this one to be especially nicely grained, straight and tight with just enough dramatic flourish, and a nice color, as opposed to some examples that utilize flat-sawn boards. Not technically a limited edition, but according to some sources there were only about 25 a year made, over a six year period.Specs / Measurements2011Spruce / Cocobolo~1.9” nut~24.9” scale length~2.33” string spacing at saddle42-style trim, extends into fretboardSloane “leaf” bronze tuners with ivoroid buttonsOriginal Custom Shop hard case with Custom Shop shroudCondition / Setup NotesThe guitar is in excellent shape, with only very minor scratching and swirl marks visible in raking light, and light enough that most would polish right out. String height just over 6/64”-4/64” from bass to treble, which maybe measures high on the bass but feels good in hand. There is plenty of saddle should an adjustment be desired. The neck is currently very straight, with minimal relief.***I love the design flourishes on this model but at its core it is still a musical instrument first; there is a big sound from this 00 size, with a nice dry resonance. I always appreciate a wider nut, and everything just feels and sounds right with this one. I would note the material selection again on this one, the cocobolo to me is noticeably nice among 0042SC.
