In 1957, in parallel with the introduction of the first Les Paul Goldtop with PAF pickup (the first humbucker pickup), a “deluxe” version of the Les Paul model, the Gibson Les Paul Custom, was added to the catalog. This quickly became a classic and went down in history as the Black Beauty, for its captivating look. Technically, this guitar is characterized by a one-piece carved mahogany body, without a maple top. This feature makes this guitar unique within the Historic Collection division: not having a maple top, this body enhances the midrange frequencies more. The result is a warm, full sound with fantastic sustain. The neck is a one-piece mahogany with a long-tenon joint to the body, which is complted at the height of the neck pickup hole, for unparalleled sustain and stability. The Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul Custom 2-Pickup Bigsby VOS features a set of Burstbucker 1 and Burstbucker 2. Like all guitars in the VOS (Vintage Original Spec) series, the 1957 Les Paul Custom 2-Pickup Bigsby VOS is handmade inside the Gibson Custom Shop factory. The construction techniques, the selection of materials, as well as the technical specifications and aesthetic details are faithful to the respective year of production. Finally, a special chemical treatment adds a patina to the nitro cellulose varnish and hardware for a "gently" vintage look.
