Description

Fine example from 1920...Martin 0-18 in its original condition. This has lived its entire life here in coastal California. Crack free with not a single top/back or side repair! Climate here is ideal, and this was extremely well cared for...naturally still is! Adirondack top, mahogany back and sides with original Macassar ebony bridge She plays suburb; Low action, straight neck, articulate with an effortless feeling neck, frets and board. Tuners are in fine shape and hold tune well. This lovely guitar has no excuses and will continue to be an important piece of functioning history for decades and beyond. Rare to find an all original example, crack/repair free with the coveted Macassar ebony bridge...in fact find another ! Greig Hutton, famed author and Martin historian, had the following comments after inspecting the guitar...with Joe Spann of Gruhn Guitars chiming in as well. (See below)… No filters…I will only ship overnight air express.-----------------------------David Serial number 14768 is a 1920 0-18. It was stamped around the beginning of  March 1920 and was shipped to Sherman, Clay & Co. in San Francisco on May 4, 1920. The bridge appears to be original (it is made of Macassar ebony and has an uncompensated bridge). I talked to Joe Spann about it and he pointed out that it appears the bridge has been off the guitar (he noticed the glue squeeze-out around the edge of the bridge). You may also note that one corner looks a little rounded, something you would see if the bridge had the bottom sanded before it was reinstalled. Greig Hutton
