This is a 1997 Collings CJMA (custom jumbo, mahogany back and sides, Adirondack Spruce top) that's now entering "Vintage" territory. Collings is known for building superb instruments that take the iconic instruments of the pre-war golden age of American steel string guitars as a point of departure. From that DNA they craft truly remarkable sounding, playing, and looking guitars having the Collings stamp on them. I'm selling this beauty because I now build guitars and it's sat in its case in a closet for the last 5 years which is not the way it should be. Back in my active band days, this was my main guitar. It does it all -flat pick, wonderful rhythm accompaniment with that mahogany pulse, great lead guitar that stands up and out in any setting, amazing finger-picking instrument. It has presence, volume, great balance across the entire tonal spectrum, and wonderful crystalline highs that have that beautiful mahogany ring to them. The LR Baggs ibeam under saddle pickup delivers clear, balanced, excellent amplified sound as well. Like all Collings guitars, the action and set-up are stellar. You'll notice it has the dings and wear that is to be expected after playing hundreds of gigs and performances over the years. I always took great care of her, never allowed the guitar to be exposed to weather, and kept her maintained in excellent playing condition. Structurally, the guitar is as sound as the day it left Collings' shop in Austin, neck straight as an arrow, action as comfortable as you could want, moderate fret wear. I'll do a set up (doesn't need it but will check all parameters) and fret dress prior to shipment. The guitar has a beautiful voice, plays supremely well, and like all Collings instruments made during Collings' earlier "boutique" period is signed by Bill Collings on the label. This is an opportunity to acquire a superb Collings guitar that has matured over the last 27 years into its own unique and beautiful voice.
