You can’t look away can you? 1966 Fender Telecaster in original finish blonde at a bargain price...What we have here is a great example of Leo’s vision. The finish has yellowed somewhat and its finish is pock-marked and worn. The surprises come under the pickguard where there's some additional woodwork to accommodate a switch, long gone. There’s also some signs of untidy routing from the factory as the neck pickup route is a bit ragged as is the bridge pickup cavity which means its slightly visible under the bridge plate.  The neck is in good shape, with its original finish. The fretboard is free of any serious wear with the back having worn comfortably without discolouration as can happen. The neck has been refretted a while ago with jumbo frets and there's plenty of life left in these frets. A second string tree (removed and filled) and a brass nut has also been added. The pick guard is in great shape with no signs of shrinkage. The chrome plating on the hardware still holds most of its sheen, with only minor signs of corrosion. It looks like the bridge plate could have been changed at some point. The electronics have been modified and then corrected. The volume pot is from 1980. Tone pot is 1966. Both pickups are correct. Neck pickup has been rewound. The bridge pickup looks to have ben too and is missing its string. The guitar comes with a hardshell case. This guitar certainly defines twang. All three pickup positions sound super sweet and balanced, the neck is warm but still holds plenty of clarity, the middle position is great for a smoother sound whilst the bridge pickup lifts us into twang-heaven. All the bite without getting too brittle, there is no way this guitar wouldn’t cut effortlessly through a mix. With all these modifications it is a surprise the original finish has survived - but survived it has and here is an opportunity to get an original finish '66 Tele at quite an attractive price point. We love these mid-60s white guard Teles and this one's a great example with an interesting past. If you're in the market then this is a must have…

About Telecaster

The Fender Telecaster, known affectionately as the "Tele," emerged as the first mass-produced solid-body electric guitar, marking a significant milestone in music history. Its straightforward design and innovative sound paved the way for new trends in electric guitar manufacturing and popular music. Since its debut in the 1950s, the Telecaster has been celebrated for its versatility, serving artists across genres from country to jazz, rock, and beyond. Its solid construction, characterized by a single-cutaway body made typically from alder or ash and a bolt-on maple neck, contributes to its distinct, bright, and cutting tone as well as a warm, mellow sound depending on pickup selection. With minor modifications over the years, the Telecaster has remained largely faithful to its original design, featuring two single-coil pickups, a three-way selector switch, and simple volume and tone controls. This enduring design has kept the Telecaster relevant and in continuous production, solidifying its status as a beloved icon in the guitar world.
