Description

This is an absolutely stunning example of a late 50’s J45, in the classic sunburst finish. This guitar was built in 1959 (FON S2241). From what I understand it has had only a handful of owners, with myself being the most recent owner since I bought it in 2016. Since then I have meticulously maintained it, and it has been kept in a correctly humidified room at all times. It sounds incredible and plays very well. When I imagine the perfect acoustic guitar, this sound comes to mind. piano like highs, balanced mids, and big, rounded out bass. The action is nice and low right now with plenty of room to be adjusted, and plays effortlessly. It really is an incredible guitar. The guitar shows the same signs of wear that most guitars of its age do. Finish checking throughout, some chips in the lacquer (particularly along the neck and headstock), and a few dents and scrapes. There have been several changes and repairs made to this guitar in It’s long life. Firstly, at some point the adjustable bridge was replaced with a non adjustable rosewood bridge. I’ve had several professional luthiers look at this modification and they have all assured me that it was well done and solid. Since owning it, I replaced the tuning machines with modern Kluson tuners, though I kept the originals and both sets will come with the guitar (the original tuners are functional, but they were never the most precise). In terms of any repairs, there is a nearly imperceptible, roughly 3 inch hairline fracture on the top of the guitar that runs along the inside edge of the pickguard, starting at the sound hole, which I believe was repaired at some point many years ago. This is a common failure point of these guitars. I've had this guitar serviced several times and each time have been told that it's in great shape and is not in need of any further repairs or fixes. This guitar does not come with the original hard shell case, but I will ship it in a modern Gibson J45 case that I purchased several years ago. This guitar comes from a smoke and pet free home and has been meticulously cared for since it came into my hands. However, I think it’s time for it to be cared for by someone who will hopefully get a little more use out of it than I do.
