Description

Gibson L-5 archtop guitar with vintage hard shell tweed and striped purple lined case. Here is a workingman's L-5 in very good condition. The top is solid carved spruce which is parallel braced and the back and sides are maple. The body is bound with a five ply binding on the top and three ply binding on the back. The f holes are bound with single ply binding. The guitar exhibits checking and nicks and dents over the entire instrument. There are no cracks or breaks over the entire body for the exception of a lateral repair through the heel and extending to either side for several inches near the center of the sides.  The repair is barely noticeable from the outside and detectable with a mirror on the inside of the guitar where a small seam of adhesive is visible. The bridge is a nice vintage Brazilian Rosewood bridge and the tailpiece is original with a very nice patina. The pick guard is a 5 ply reproduction with vintage hardware and the addition of a vintage DeArmond archtop guitar pickup with volume knob mounted to the pick-guard and ported to a Brazilian Rosewood Mini-plug at the endpin. The tuners appear to be a sturdy gold plated set of replacement tuners. The fingerboard is ebony and bound with 5 ply binding and shows very little play wear. The guitar appears to have been refretted and instead of nipping the end of the fret tangs, the fret ends were left exposed.  The fret ends are properly rounded and show very little wear. The guitar plays and sounds great and plays clearly up and down the entire neck without fretting or buzzing. The scale length is 25 1/4". The nut width is 1 11/16". The guitar weighs 6.9 lbs. The string height at the 12th fret is 4 mm on the bass side and 3mm on the treble side.48 hour approval on all guitars and basesPearl Guitars, Portland Oregon
