In the late 1920s, 12-fret, slotted head guitars began their historic transformation into the solid headstock and alternate body sizes found in guitars still to this day. This rare Limited Edition 12-Fret OMS Victorian is a nod to the builds of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. This Limited edition model, numbered 6 of only 6 made, is built with with old growth Bearclaw Sinker Sitka Spruce top paired with stunning colorful Brazilian “Hybrid” Rosewood back and sides. Ziricote bindings, slotted headstock overlay, hell cap and wedge and Victorian style candy rope top purfling and rosette. A great price for this boutique Limited Edition build. The Sinker Bearclaw Sitka Spruce was reclaimed from an old Alaskan fish trap and was originally cut around the turn of the century late 1800’s/ early 1900’s. The logs were tied together to make huge floating fish traps. This rare tonewood was salvaged from 100+ year-old structures originally used to corral and trap salmon. A century of submergence under brackish waters has imparted unique resonant characteristics and a slight bluish hue to this remarkable tonewood. The Hyrid Brazilian Rosewood is some of the most stunning wood we have seen in a while. Bourgeois says, “Sold to us as genuine Brazilian Rosewood, we can attest that this attractive tonewood wood sounds like Brazilian, is of similar weight to Brazilian, and smells like Brazilian. However, due to its striking coloration and atypical grain patterning, we are of the opinion that this is most likely a hybridized version.” So our opinion at Down Home Guitars is that this is a very responsive guitar with warmth and clarity and the glass like tone you would expect.
