Description

During World War II, Gibson was producing some truly incredible instruments. Known as "Banner" Era guitars, these dynamic dreadnoughts and flattops are some of the most cherished of Gibson's history. This particular J-45 is astounding to say the least. If the huge neck does not deter the player, the range of this instrument is shocking. From a deep register producing a cannon sound, to the crispness of the trebles, this J-45 is worthy of comparison to most any Banner era dreadnought. Some J-45s from the WWII/Banner era, like this one, were made with rare mahogany tops. These models sound slightly different from the spruce versions, and many players specifically seek them out. This particular example has undergone several repairs, including a neck reset, re-gluing of the bridge (which left some tooling marks), a refret, a shimmed nut, replacement saddle and bridge pins, and a planed fingerboard. Thanks to these repairs, this guitar plays and sounds fantastic, ready to make music for years to come.Period correct alligator chipboard case included.
