This is quite a guitar. Part of the 175 guitars made by Gibson at the end of the 60’s when they reintroduced the Flying V to the catalogue. 5 batches were made between 1967 and 1969, all mahogany, finished in either Walnut, Sunburst, Cherry or Sparkling Burgundy (with a handful being in custom colours), these proved far more popular than the initial run a decade prior and were seen in the hands of luminaries such as Leslie West, Marc Bolan and a certain Jimi Hendrix. This example is from the 5th batch and is one of 34 shipped in 1970 and would have left Kalamazoo with a Walnut finish. It featured a three piece neck, one piece body and maestro trem. This guitar has also got some history and in fact this is only the second time it has been offered for sale since it was new. This V has been owned by the same owner since 1979, this owner gigged it at various large stages throughout the 80's and 90's with the owners band 'Siam'. The current owner bought the guitar in 1971 from the original owner who re-lacquered it just before the sale, thinking he was doing the new buyer a favour...From the pics you would not think it had been re-lacquered but it has..! Structurally this guitar is in excellent condition. So often modified and broken, this one has escaped any of these pitfalls. There are no neck breaks and no rings added or stop tail added. The neck too is in good condition with no sign of wear to the fretboard. The original fret look to have plenty of life left in them.Plastics and hardware are in good condition with some signs of corrosion to the bridge and the pickguard has shrunk. Electrically, one volume pot has been changed and there has been some solder disturbed. The guitar comes with its correct hardshell case. This guitar really sings. Both pickups sound fantastic. The neck is smooth but still plenty of attack, together both pickups roar whilst the bridge pickup really cuts through without any brittleness . Its also a really comfortable guitar to play, even sat down!A real unicorn guitar, regardless of the refinish, this would make a great addition to any guitar collection. You won’t have one already.
