For sale: 1969 C.F. Martin D28 with stunning Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. Just got a reply from my good friend Harry at C.F. Martin: the guitar block was stamped April 16th, 1969.  That year they made 3161 D28's with a full retail price of $425.00This guitar has NO cracks anywhere, which is very rare....When I got the guitar from the original owner, it was still 100% original; after a consultation with my luthier/repair man we decided on a few changes/improvements to enhance the quality of the guitar without making any major changes - please see below for details.Back and sides are in 'excellent condition' and super shiny: a few small marks only visible when turning the guitar at a certain angle into the light. The front has some finish checking and a few dull spots where hand/arm has touched for decades of playing. This guitar has been loved and played, the way it should be...My guitar tech/luthier says he can 'clean that up, while still keeping the original finish ' but we decided to leave it as is for now, since it is only 'cosmetic' and does not have any influence on sound or play-ability.This guitar has a perfect (!) action and intonation and plays up and down the neck without any issues. Picking or (hard) strumming gives a clear sound and no buzzing anywhere. Great tone, that you expect from a Brazilian Rosewood Martin guitar that has been played for 55 years. I just (November 28, 2024) took the guitar to my to-go-to guitar expert: he has 60 years (!) as a Martin-certified luthier/repair man under his belt and has been working for C.F. Martin since 1965 (!).I followed his expert advice with this instrument:-to prevent any cracks in the wood (yes, the notorious B-string crack), he removed the original pick guard (that, when shrinking can crack the wood) and installed a (custom made) new one.original pick guard is in the case.- he dressed/crowned the frets- he made a new (bone) saddle to get the intonation, tone and play-ability to the highest level and it is absolutely perfect. original saddle is in the case.- he installed a small back-up bridge plate, when he noticed a microscopically small (starting) crack in the original bridge plate. this does not effect the sound in any way and...better be safe than sorry. The neck has a wonderful smooth/fast/light feel to it; a true pleasure to play. This guitar has not had a neck reset and will not need one for many years to come.Case: C.F. Martin high end molded black case. Bought new in 2009 to keep protecting this beauty for years to come. Excellent condition, to match the condition of this fine and rare instrument. The price: nowhere in the world you will find a Brazilian Rosewood D28 in this very good, nearly all original condition for this price. Most had some serious work done or need it. Priced to sell; no trades please. Serious inquiries welcome.
