Description

So what do we have here.. a competitively priced, lightweight (3.52Kg) maple neck 50's Strat with obviously a few changes so let's get straight in there and see what's what...Refinished body - fairly decent job, old refin in 2 tone nitro with some cool checking. Date still visible in trem cavity of 4/59. Partially refinished, partially over-sprayed neck, original checked finish still visible on the headstock face. No neck date as you would expect for mid 1959. Fingerboard has been sanded slightly during one of its probable multiple refrets but still retains its 7.25 radius. What appears to be the correct 8 hole pickguard for this body is there and this would tie in with the March 59 body date although at some stage this Strat has seen other pick guards attached to it.2 x tone pots are original or correct and all are dated 1st week of 1959, the volume pot is a later CTS replacement. Switch is correct as is the phone book cap and most of the wiring, jack etc.Pickups appear to be the correct black bottom pre-CBS pickups but they have all been rewound, the neck pickup was dead when we got the guitar so it is has been rewound again, this time by Monty's (just up the road from us btw).Hardware looks good, no extra routing, no holes patched up. Trem arm is a repro, switch tip is a repro. some adjustment screws have been replaced on the saddles and these look to have been cleaned up.Plays real nice, great light weight, almost as light as your typical hardtail. Great sounding and well balanced pickups make this a a bit of a bargain and one of the best resins we currently have..!
