Description

This is not the first 60’s Fender we’ve seen in Candy Apple Red, but it is definitely one of the coolest. This 1966 Fender Telecaster’s original post-CBS Candy Apple Red finish, applied red-over-gold has aged fantastically to the point where it now has a subtle, warm orange tint, complemented by extensive wear and beautiful lacquer checking, giving the guitar a truly distinctive and unique aesthetic. This, combined with the rare and desirable maple cap neck makes this a really rare and desirable vintage piece. It has been refretted with larger modern frets, so it also plays exceptionally well. Otherwise it is all original. Neck date is April 1966, pots date to week 17 of 1966. At just 3400 grams (7.5 lbs), it is very lightweight and resonant, delivering all the snap and twang you could want. The guitar includes its original case, which, while showing significant wear, remains fully functional and a testament to the instrument’s rich history. With its absolutely killer looks, light weight, superb playability and awesome tone, this 1966 Fender Telecaster is a standout vintage guitar that encapsulates the charm and sound of an iconic era. A must-have for collectors and players alike.SPECIFICATIONSBodySolid Alder (typical for custom color finishes)Candy Apple Red finish (red-over-gold)NeckMaple neck with maple capApril 1966 neck dateBolt-on constructionC-shaped profile21-fret maple fingerboard (refretted)25.5″ scale length7.25″ fingerboard radiusHardwareChrome-plated control plate and bridgeOriginal 3-saddle bridge with threaded steel saddlesSingle-ply white pickguardElectronicsSingle-coil pickups (neck and bridge)2x 250k CTS pots (week 17, 1966)3-way switchMaster volume, master toneWeight3400g (7.5 lbs)CaseOriginal Fender hardshell case (worn but functional)

About Telecaster

The Fender Telecaster, known affectionately as the "Tele," emerged as the first mass-produced solid-body electric guitar, marking a significant milestone in music history. Its straightforward design and innovative sound paved the way for new trends in electric guitar manufacturing and popular music. Since its debut in the 1950s, the Telecaster has been celebrated for its versatility, serving artists across genres from country to jazz, rock, and beyond. Its solid construction, characterized by a single-cutaway body made typically from alder or ash and a bolt-on maple neck, contributes to its distinct, bright, and cutting tone as well as a warm, mellow sound depending on pickup selection. With minor modifications over the years, the Telecaster has remained largely faithful to its original design, featuring two single-coil pickups, a three-way selector switch, and simple volume and tone controls. This enduring design has kept the Telecaster relevant and in continuous production, solidifying its status as a beloved icon in the guitar world.
