This 2023 Gibson Murphy Lab 1942 Banner Southern Jumbo (Vintage Sunburst Light Aged), which features torrefied Adirondack spruce and rosewood back/sides, does an excellent job of capturing the old vibe! Check out the included demo video.I’ve been hearing good things about the recent Murphy Lab offerings from Gibson, but this is the first opportunity I’ve had to play one. The look and feel of the guitar – from the large, round C-shape neck profile to the character of the of aged finish – is accurate. To me, this “aging” looks a little more period-correct than Martin’s Aged offerings. It’s constructed with hide glue and features scalloped braces, bone bridge pins, an eye-catching firestripe pickguard, and Kluson tuners. It sounds killer, especially for a nearly brand new “old” guitar, and it offers a little more low end than I’m accustomed to hearing in the real Banner Gibsons, likely at least in part because of the rosewood (which I know a few early SJs had). The vintage Gibson mahogany dryness is reproduced here strikingly well! The nut width is 1 ¾”, and a Baggs HiFi pickup has been installed. Although this SJ is used, it has received little playing time and displays virtually no fretwear. It is in essentially the same shape as it was on the day it left the factory!Asking $4,800 here on Reverb (a bit lower on other forums) plus shipping. Comes with original case and case candy.
