Gibson's SG Les Paul Custom from the early 60's is a guitar that screams rock and roll. This example has seen some work that makes it approachable, with all original examples going for $30k and more. There were just 298 made in 1962, making this an extremely rare guitar. Getting the original case with a player's version of this guitar is a good boost - they go for $2000 ish on their own.The guitar made its way through Historic Makeovers, prior to the untimely passing of Kim LaFleur. We will be adding some pics to our website listing that show the guitar in a couple stages of the process, revealing that there were no breaks to the body or neck, and that the original serial number remained prior to, during, and after the process. The Historic Makeovers certificate is included. As a player's grade instrument, there are some hardware changes. The tuners are era appropriate Grovers, which are likely original to the guitar. The truss rod, pickguard, back plates, and poker chip appear to be original, as are three of the pots, switch, pickup rings, and knobs. The guitar was once outfitted with a stopbar tailpiece. Those holes were filled by Historic Makeovers and the reproduction vibrola was added. The vibrola has a "stop" installed, freezing it in position and restricting vibrato action. This improves the tone, and the vibrola helps to balance the guitar when you wear it on a stratp. The pickups are all changed. The middle pickup is a patent sticker Gibson part from the mid to late 60s. This pickup is wired out of the circuit, with plenty of lead wire length to wire it in if you want. While three pickups look really, really cool, the guitar is more useable as such. The bridge is a Duncan '59 that really kills. The neck pickup is an embossed patent number Gibson pickup from the 70s. It is no slouch! The guitar was refretted and they play soooo well! There is no neck like this. It is effortless, and upper fret access is unprecedented.
