2000 Patrick Eggle 19” Archtop, Original English Calton CaseIt’s quite rare to see a 19” carved acoustic archtop out there, and even more so from a noted luthier. This lovely guitar is made by Patrick Eggle, and features beautifully carved arches in the top and back; just look at the way the shadows show the deep curves. The guitar feels notably smaller once holding it, given the elegant, tight waists. Always nice with instruments of unusual size and shape, a form fit custom case is included. As icing on the cake, it’s an original English Calton case, itself a bit of a rarity.Specs / Measurements2000Euro Spruce / Euro Maple~1.75” / 44.5mm nut~25” / 635mm string length~2.00” / 51mm string spacing at saddle~19” lower bout3 3/8” body depthContact pickup (brand unknown, similar to K and K), side jackGrover Kluson-style tunersOriginal English Calton flight caseCondition / Setup NotesIn very nice shape considering its 24 years, with light, typical wear. There is evidence of binding repair on both sides of the waist on the top, and slight separations in the back. Both are stable without issues, and a more-than-worthy trade off for the tight waist on this guitar, to me one of its nicest attributes. A little bit of looseness in the f hole bindings. There are holes from a pick guard that is no longer installed or with the guitar. String height is at a comfortable ~5/64”-3/64” from bass to treble, with light relief in the neck. The Calton case is in excellent shape and rock solid, but has some adhesive residue on the top as visible in pictures. ***This is such an impressive guitar to behold. Especially noteworthy given the size of the instrument, the arches have a deep and dramatic carve. As noted previously the waist is tight for a 19” guitar, which cuts a striking figure and makes it surprisingly comfortable to hold. Strung with bronze strings, it has a nice big acoustic voice and I find it adaptable to many uses including fingerstyle (which it’s set up nicely for at the moment).
